Dear College Counselor:

Lewis University in Romeoville is offering a unique and exciting program for students interested in the experiences and role of people of color working in the fields of journalism: Web and print media, radio and television. On Monday, March 20, 2006, we will be hosting a Minorities in the Media Conference. The event is from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. An optional campus tour will be offered at the end of the program for any interested groups. High schools interested in sending students should complete the enclosed Participation Form by Friday, March 3, 2006. Space is limited to 150 participants. In order to allow participation from a number of high schools, we are initially limiting each high school to 15 total participants including students, high school staff and chaperones. If you wish to bring a larger group, please let us know and we will notify you if space allows.

Our keynote speaker, ABC television personality Jim Rose, will discuss his experience in television news. The updated list of our other featured speakers and workshops can be found at www.lewisflyer.com by clicking on "Media Conference." Students will be given the opportunity to choose between two media tracks: Track 1 - radio, print, and Web media; and Track 2 - television and public relations. We will soon be mailing a brochure detailing workshops and the schedule for the day.

We are also offering a professional development opportunity for high school staff involved with student media publications or who teach classes using new media. During the conference, staff members can obtain valuable information concerning copyright infringement and learn about new tools in student media including digital storytelling.

A contest for various student media publications and projects will also be offered (see enclosed contest guidelines for details). All students who participate in the contest will receive certificates of participation as well as comments on their entries. Winners in each category will receive awards. A similar invitation was mailed to the Chair of your English Department (if applicable).

A continental breakfast and box lunch will be provided for those who attend.

For more information, please contact me at (815) 836-5684, or e-mail me at sisonan@lewisu.edu.

Hope to see you on campus!

Respectfully,

Andrew B. Sison
