In the past Flyer issues, we have been covering Lewis' off campus sites. There are four off-site campus locations and the main campus located in Romeoville. One of the newer Lewis sites to open up is in Tinley Park.
The Tinley Park campus is located right off Interstate 80 at Harlem Avenue. This location allows students to come straight from work and provides free and generally accessible parking.
The site has been open since 2002 and is now in its third year. The current student population is right around 500. It has doubled since last year and continues to grow each year.
The Tinley Park campus is a beautiful facility and offers a student lounge, seven classrooms, and a computer lab with 22 stations.
The campus offers adult accelerated undergraduate programs in several different fields, including nursing, business administration, management, and criminal/social justice. They offer graduate programs in administration, reading and literacy, and school counseling and guidance. Business and professional development seminars are also offered at the Tinley Park site.
Coming in spring of 2006, a new masters program involving a master of science in management (MSM) will soon be available to students.
Carol Chaplin, the site coordinator, oversees all the daily operations of the campus.
"The campus is one in which it is in a very professional environment and it is what the students like to have when they come here," Chaplin said.
"The teachers really care about the students and are willing to help them out in any way possible. Many teachers come here right from the Romeoville campus and are often here giving students extra help before class starts, to make sure their students have a full grasp of the material being covered. They offer their services no matter what."
Some students agree with Chaplin on how well the setting is working for them and the type of atmosphere that is provided. June Stroup, who is working on her bachelors in nursing, said, "I love this place. It is close to my house and it is a very nice setting to be in. Being a little bit older than some of the other students, I like the teachers here because they teach me like an adult."
