Brookfield Zoo
Brookfield Zoo is located on First Avenue between Ogden and 31st Street. In Brookfield. It's about a 20-30 minute drive from campus if you hop on 290. Admission is eight dollars plus another eight for parking the car. Hours are 10am-5pm weekdays through the end of the month and 10am-6pm on weekends. After this month it is 10am-5pm daily through January save for special days. This month the zoo features Boo at the Zoo! Some of the activities include a haunted hayride, pumpkin carving demonstrations, costume parades, and scary creatures on display! Don't miss out on a good ole fashioned time at the zoo. Who didn't love going to the zoo on field trips as a kid? Now's your chance to visit again and bring some friends!
Six Flags Great America
It's time once again for Frightfest! Running weekends October 8th- October 30th, frightfest turn Six Flags Great America into one hell of a scary place. What make the theme park so different? To start with some of the rides run backwards, scary creatures roaming the park after dark, and shows designed to scare the living daylights out of you! To buy your ticket online go to www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/TicketInfo/index.html, you can get the price of $36.99. Prices at the gate are $44.99. The closest six flags to Lewis is located at 524 N. Route 21, Gurnee, IL 60031. It may be a bit pricy but it's definitely worth your money, especially if you go with a group of friends. The whole park is decorated to turn each village into some creepy mythical town or creature (this year features a fallen giant). One year a friend of mine went and was stalked by Beetlejuice for a long time. Another friend of mine was scared half to death when a Jason-esque character jumped out at her from behind a bush. The whole park is basically a huge haunted house. Definitely try and check it out.
Halloween Fun
Statesville Haunted House is by far one of the scariest places around. Located at 17250 Weber Road, Statesville is turned into a haunted prison where an inmate leads you through over 30 maximum security cells which feature such favorites as Hannibal the Cannibal and Gacy the Killer Clown. Open Thursday through Sunday in October, it costs $25.00 to get in. but when you think about it, these are chicagoland acting troupes performing for you, it's well worth the scream and the price.
