Zoo
In case you don't want to pay $8 for parking to see a few animals, you could always hop on the train downtown and go to Lincoln Park Zoo. It is located at Cannon Drive at Fullerton Parkway and is one of the oldest zoos in the country, opening in 1868. The best part? It's absolutely free. Lincoln Park zoo now features Farm-in-the-Zoo, gorillas, new additions to the petting zoo, and swan boats to paddle around the lagoon in. Good times to be had by all.
Haunted Trails
Remember when you were little and you used to go to arcades to hang out. Oh, the 80s. Nevertheless, Haunted Trails was always one of those places you could guarantee someone would have their birthday party. Offering a Halloween theme, Haunted Trails is a place to go and relax and reconnect with your youth. They have an outdoor racetrack and tons of games with the same weirdo prizes as when you were little. Located about 20 minutes down Highway 53 in Joliet, it's a good place to go hang out.
ESPN Zone
For some more adult-like fun in the same genre, check out ESPN Zone located at 43 E. Ohio Street in downtown Chicago. ESPN Zone offers state of the art 3-D arcade games, a rock-climbing wall, and a racetrack. A new addition to the Chicago site is a 15-foot Madden NFL Football game. While it can get a bit pricey to play all the games, and there may be a $10 food and beverage minimum in high traffic times, ESPN Zone is definitely worth the money. Even if you don't play any of the games, you can check out the dining area, which offers such classics as Blue Potato Chips and Peppermint Pattie Brownies. Oh, and don't forget the 16-foot high definition TV. Definitely the place to be at game time.
Concerts
Coming to the Chicagoland area this month are: Veruca Salt, 311, Audioslave, Dane Cook, Black Label Society, Kanye West, Simple Plan, Better Than Ezra, The Roots, Hanson, Dropkick Murphys, Styx, OK Go, The Beach Boys, Brian Setzer's Orchestra, Natalie Cole, Jethro Tull, Larry the Cable Guy, Clay Aiken, Rise Against, and Sinead Oconnor.
The Second City

It offers two stages seating 290 and 180, respectively. The club puts on nightly performances written by the comedy troupe.
