Around Town: Places You Should Definitely See

Jen Vazquez

Issue date: 10/9/05 Section: Tempo
Medieval Times

Medieval Times located at 2001 N. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, is one hell of a place. It's an actual replica of a castle sitting beside I-90 in all its glory. It features 85,000 square feet of splendor and has 1,430 permanent seats inside the Grand Ceremonial Arena. The Schaumburg site has had over three million customers since its opening. For $48.95 plus tax, you get seated in the Grand Ceremonial Arena in one of six sections. Each section is assigned a knight. Each knight wears a different color and the audience of the corresponding section wears a paper crown with their knight's colors. During appetizers a brigade of gorgeous horses are brought forth to do tricks for you. While being served a somewhat authentic (I doubt they had Coca-Cola in the 1600s) yet hearty meal (a full chicken leg, ribs, potato, and side), you are treated to a jousting tournament where everyone screams wildly for their knight to win. And of course, treachery is afoot in the castle. During dessert, the winning knight battles the evil men whom threaten the king. After the show, the "dungeons" are opened for you to peruse through as well as the gift shop and the knights make an appearance to sign autographs and take pictures.

It may be a tad expensive, but Medieval Times is definitely worth your money. I mean, how many times do you get to relive your youth in college? Not many, so take advantage of this opportunity.

Peer Ministry

I'm a little biased being that I am a peer minister, but I would like to suggest that you try and attend some of the wonderful programs your peers have planned for you. The best part? They're free, fun, and you get free food! Always keep an eye out for flyers in the dorm as these dates approach. If you are interested in a social setting to meet people in your building, you can try these events in October.

10/1 S'Mores 8:00pm- North Hall
10/12 Gourmet Caramel Apples 9:00pm - DeLaSalle South Hall
10/12 Ice Cream Social/Snowcone Social 8:00pm - Fitzpatrick Hall
