Going into Tuesday nights match up against Wisconsin-Parkside, the Lewis women's volleyball team appeared to have quite a few distinct advantages over their visiting opponents.

One advantage was that the game was played in front of many Flyer students and supporters. Lewis also came into the game with a 9-4 overall record, while Parkside held a 2-13 mark, and Lewis knew that with a victory they would still be one of only two teams left unbeaten in the GLVC Conference. The toughest part last night for the Flyers might have been not looking ahead to their two big away conference games this weekend, Friday at Bellarmine and Saturday at Northern Kentucky. This did not affect them as the Flyers did indeed continue their recent hot streak, rolling to a three-game sweep of Parkside with a 30-26, 30-23, 30-25 victory. Lewis upped its record to 10-4, 3-0, while Parkside fell to 2-14, 0-3.

"I was pleased with certain stretches of the game, and not so pleased in others," coach Karen Lockyer said. "There were times when we played at a high level with a lot of energy and others when we looked kind of flat out there. We need to be consistent and can't keep shifting our energy levels from one point to the next."

Junior right side hitter Sarah McKinney played a vital part in leading the Flyers to their third straight conference win, hammering a team-high 14 kills to go along with her 10 digs. McKinney hit an outstanding .463 for the three-game match. Another junior, outside hitter Theresa Nugent, backed up McKinney with 11 kills of her own. Freshman Aubrey Dodlinger and sophomore Becca Lisle also helped pace the Flyer attack with seven kills a piece. Although Lewis had only one more total kill (45 to 44) than Parkside for the match, they hit almost .100 points higher and committed nine fewer errors, which turned out to be decisive.

Sophomore setter Andrea Morrone continued her strong early start to the season by dishing out 32 assists, and mixing the ball well among her three hitters. Morrone kept Parkside off balance the whole night, and played a nearly flawless three games. The last two games, however, Morrone kept feeding her hot hitter, McKinney, who posted five kills in game two, and six kills in the third and final game. McKinney was consistently able to hit off the Parkside block and tool the ball right off of the hands of the Parkside blockers.
