Lewis University has been mentioned for its second consecutive year in the Princeton Review as one of the best institutions of higher education in the Midwest. This publication mentions only 158 colleges in the United States, including 23 colleges in the state of Illinois.

The Princeton Review's website mentions that their main goal in mentioning the schools of their choice is "...to identify some of the colleges and universities that we feel should stand out within each region."

The Princeton Review makes its decision of the "Best Colleges" list by information that is sent in from the different universities and colleges themselves. There is also a section called "Students Say," where information and remarks are posted that come directly from the student body.

One student commented, "The typical [Lewis] student is a person from the suburbs who is working [his or her] way through school." The Lewis undergraduate students are also described as "predominantly goal-oriented and motivated."

After speaking with many of the students around campus, one student, nursing major Raymond Dham, replied that he was not surprised of such recognition because he, "had many friends who have graduated from Lewis and now have great jobs who recommended the school."

Also for the second consecutive year, Lewis has been mentioned in the US News and World Report in the category of Midwestern Universities - Master's Top Schools. Lewis ranks number 58 of all of the schools mentioned.

According to the Lewis web site, Brother James Gaffney, president of Lewis University stated, "This recognition underscores our effectiveness as a university with a rich tradition of career-preparation, combined with an emphasis on liberal learning." Gaffney added, "It speaks to the quality of values-based education, where exceptional faculty and staff are committed to the students."

It seems when asked, all faculty and staff were aware, and unsurprised, of Lewis' acknowledgments in both the Princeton Review and the US News and World Report.

Photojournalism instructor Ron Molk said, "I've been working for Lewis as a photographer for about 12 years, and it doesn't surprise me that they were given such a high rating. I've always been impressed with the caliber of faculty, staff and students that I've encountered here."
