This upcoming Sunday marks a big day for all of our favorite stars on television. It's the 57th annual Emmy Awards, which is airing on CBS and at 7 p.m. This year's show is being hosted by comedian/talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and will also feature a new twist to its usual thing. This year several TV stars will sing theme songs in what they are calling the, "Emmy Idol." It is just like "American Idol" the way that it is set up. Fans will get to vote on the stars that they think do the best job, and crown the Emmy Idol Champions. Stars scheduled to perform include Megan Mullally, Donald Trump, William Shatner and opera star Frederica von Stade.

This year's nominees for best Drama Series are "Deadwood," "Lost," "Six Feet Under," "24," and "the West Wing." Every year it seems that "the West Wing" is nominated and are considered the favorites to win this year as well, but many "experts," predict that ABC's "Lost" will steal the award away from "the West Wing" this year. My prediction: "24."
To go along with the drama theme we have the actors that make up the drama series. This year's nominees for Best Actor in a Drama are: James Spader from "Boston Legal," Ian McShane from "Deadwood," Hugh Laurie from "House," Hank Azaria from "Huff," and Kiefer Sutherland from "24." Many predict either one of Fox's nominated actors Sutherland or Laurie to take home this award, because both really do a good job at their respective roles. My prediction: Sutherland from "24."

We can't forget the ladies in a drama series. With that said, here are this year's nominees. Patricia Arquette from "Medium," Glenn Close from "the Shield," Frances Conroy from "Six Feet Under," Jennifer Garner from "Alias," and Mariska Hargitay from "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit." My prediction to win: Mariska Hargitay from "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit."

Time to look at the other side of the spectrum and we turn to the comedy series that were nominated as the best. This year's nominees for Best Comedy Series are: "Arrested Development," "Desperate Housewives," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Scrubs," and "Will and Grace." This category could go to NBC's "Scrubs," but in the end look for the hottest show on TV to win: "Desperate Housewives."

The nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy Series are: Jason Bateman from "Arrested Development," Ray Romano from "Everybody Loves Raymond," Tony Shalhoub from "Monk," Zach Braff from "Scrubs," and Eric McCormack from "Will and Grace." Everyone is saying that Bateman will win and I tend to agree with the critics on this one. The nominated actresses in a comedy series are: Marcia Cross from "Desperate Housewives," Teri Hatcher from "Deseperate Housewives," Patricia Heaton from "Everybody Loves Raymond," Felicity Huffman from "Desperate Housewives," and Jane Kaczmarek from "Malcolm in the Middle." If none of the "Desperate" women win it would be a surprise but I hope that Kaczmarek from "Malcolm" takes home the award.

This year's theme to the Emmy awards will not just center around the awards but something more important: the disaster in the Gulf Coast. Look for a lot of the stars to just talk about helping those who are less fortunate. It should hopefully prove to be worthwhile to hear all the stars try to encourage more donations and to send supplies down to those who have been affected.
