Flyers finish season with four players getting All-MIVA nods

As the Flyers won their last two matches, they draw their season to a close. On Apr. 13 and 16. The Flyers played the last three matches and scored up wins on both dates. Finishing the season with a record of 17-14, the Flyers ended up tied with Ball State for the third place ranking in conference.

The MIVA announced four players that had made the team. Jeff Soler, J.J. Castello, Enrique Escalante and Jared Dayton all were honored with making the All-MIVA team.

The 13th, found the Flyers playing the IPFW Mastodons, at Quincy University. The three game match was a close match, with the game total scores being within a couple of points of Each other. With game scores of 30-28, 40-38, 30-26 it was a very close game, and allowed for several of the Flyers to show what they were made of. Matt Mueller added up his 20 kills, with Jeff Soler and his own 18 kills, three digs and two blocks. Enrique Escalante also served up four aces and seven blocks of his own.

The 16th of April found the Flyers at home against two very intimidating teams. The first match was four very close games against the Quincy Hawks, with scores of 27-30, 30-22, 30-27 and 30-23 leaving the Match with the Flyers with a lead of 3-1. Several of the Flyers excelled; Matt Mueller had 18 kills and 12 digs. While Matt Mueller lead the Flyers in total there were several other Flyers that got into the same range as Matt. Jared Dayton had 14 kills and eight digs, while Jeff Soler added his own 13 kills, nine digs and three blocks for the match. Last but not least, is Enrique Escalante who chalked up his own 11 kills, three aces and three blocks.

After the Flyers took on the Quincy Hawks, they were then up against the Lees-McRae Bobcats. The Bobcats put up a very hard fight, and lead the first two game of the match with scores of 26-30 and 25-30. After the first two losses, the Flyers found a second wind and were able to pull through a win with game scores of 30-24, 30-27 and 15-11. The length of the match allowed for Greg Pochopien to score up an impressive 18 kills, five digs and six blocks, which helped push the Flyers and finish the match off with a match score of 3-2.
