Pitching was the theme this past weekend as the Flyers blanked Bellarmine in a big conference doubleheader.

Pitchers Shannon Roney and Kristen Porzel combined to throw a pair of shutouts to help the Flyers move into third place in the GLVC standings. On the season, the Flyers are currently 23-12 overall (15-1 GLVC). The loss dropped Bellarmine to 18-28 overall (3-13 GLVC)

Game one saw Roney improve her record to 9-6, pitching a complete game, while striking out five and walking none. The freshman hurler held Bellarmine to four hits and did not allow a runner to reach third base. Roney's gem delivered a 1-0 victory for the Flyers.

Offensively, the lone run came in the first inning when Robin Martz led off the game with a bloop single to center. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a single by Beth Shelus. Amy Yusko then was walked to load the bases, which set up a sacfrice fly by Mallory Paine scoring Martz, which turned out to be enough.

Bellarmine's Claire Horstman pitched brilliantly in the loss, allowing just two hits and striking out nine.

Once again solid pitching carried the Flyers this time by Porzel. Lewis was victorious 4-0 on the back of Porzel's four-hit shutout, her first shutout of the season. The senior righty was perfect through four innings after retiring the game's first ten batters before giving up a single to the Knight's Brittany Umphress. She shook off the single by setting down the following ten batters she faced enroute to her fourth win of the season. Porzel also struck out four Bellarmine batters.

The Flyers were able to breathe a bit easier getting more run support, scoring a single run in each of the first four innings of game two.

Sacrifice flies were the blue-light special on the day as all five Lewis runs scored on fly outs.

Martz led off game two with a single to right field and once again stole second base. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Shelus and scored on a sacrifice fly by Yusko.
