As the of the Fall of 2005, Lewis will offer a Education Leadership Doctoral Program for those interested in furthering study of this field. The program is designed for those who are interested in moving forward in their education and receiving a Ph.D in Education.
"The Lewis community has been extremely supportive of the new Education Doctoral program with a moral and ethical framework" said Dr. Mines. "Faculty, Staff, and Administration from across the University have all worked to make this happen and we are pleased with its beginning success."
The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association approved the program in February. This will mark the first Doctoral program at Lewis University and hopes to attract more students in this demanding field of study.
"[Recruiting] has already started for the new program" said Dr. Jeanette Mines, Dean of the College of Education. " 46 people attended our first open house and we hope to have a better turn out for the following session April 13th."
Coursework in this field is designed to be completed within three years and the program will follow with classes meeting one night per week and every other Saturday. Students will begin their research fairly early in the program so when the final coursework is finished, they will be well equipped to begin work on their dissertation proposal.
Official transcripts, General Record Examination Scores (GRE), two letters of recommendation and a personal interview follow the application process students must file in order to be accepted into the program. Students are also required to write an essay on a topic determined by the College of Education.
Acceptance to the program will be based on the academic qualifications and appropriate experience of the applicant. Candidates must hold a minimum of a master's degree in education related fields from an accredited institution.
