By now many have heard about the latest edition to our school's growing campus. No, it's not the new dorm hall, but the Wireless Internet Nodes or also known as WIN. These new stations will help provide everyone on the campus a new way to surf the Internet in places that you do not commonly find yourself doing it in.
Using the WIN systems is not like using the Internet that Lewis University uses. WIN is an entire different network all to itself, and this means that you are able to access any web site, including your E-Mail, Blackboard classes, and the Lewis website whenever you are in one of the several hotspots on the campus. Students and faculty should be aware that the wireless internet connection tends to be generally slower than other connections, and may not be as secure as other networks are, but are still relatively safe to use.
WIN is set up in order to help students, faculty, and staff to help access the internet using wireless equipment in several areas around the campus. Some of these places include: the library- with sites on the first and second floor, the student union- with areas including the Flyer's Den and the Outdoor Pavilion, the cafeteria in the Academic Building, the Courtyard Café in DeLasalle Hall, and the Student Rec Center in the center area of the building.
WIN can be accessed by anyone who has a laptop with wireless capabilities. To log onto WIN is a very easy thing to do.
Once you find yourself in one of these places on campus, your wireless device in your computer should detect the wireless network through WIN and from there a login screen should appear on your screen. There it asks for your login name and a password. You do not need to make one up because everyone already has one. Just like when you sign online to check your e-mail on the Lewis website, you use your login name which is the same as your Lewis login name, except, you do not need @Lewisu.edu and your password only changes slightly.
