Be it for nursing, business, or even a public relations degree, Lewis University stands as an institution for those that live on campus and those that decide to commute. With an enrollment of over 5,000 students, Lewis stacks up as a good sized private school in the area. Campus activities brought by Student Life reflect the ever changing environment of Lewis, which includes poker tournaments, a ski trip, and the Battle of the Bands concert. So why do so many students that live on campus go home every weekend and virtually no commuters stay with friends for a weekend? Many other schools of similar size have much larger groups that stay on campus, with many clubs and organizations running activities on their campuses.

At a school of comparable size, Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio is an excellent example of a school based on student leadership setting the tone. The school prides itself as having "1,000 on-campus activities", with many of those activities being sponsored, brought together, directed, and carried out by students. Along with a world renown conservatory where world renowned orchestra's play on a regular basis, Oberlin is the definition of a modern campus, in ideas and activities. Students can enjoy the famous singing Oberlin Obertones, an a kapp'lla group that covers modern songs every part with voice alone. The college also offers a folk music club, a fencing club, a board game club, and even a sailing club for those with aquatic tendencies.

As far as things to do around campus, if one of the many student run clubs doesn't suit your needs, current Freshmen Chris Hamby claims, "You need to come to the concerts here, they are really awesome." With acts in the best including such names in music as The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Belle Fleck and the Flecktones, along with countless others over the years, this campus has all the fun of Chicago's Metro Theater on a regular basis. Not only do some of the leading acts in music stop by, but world class orchestras have no problem coming in from time to time to enjoy the small town setting and world class fans.
