[Ed. Note: We debated in the newsroom whether or not to write this staff editorial. Even though this will go to print before spring break, most people aren't going to read it until that dreadful week when we all have to come back from our much-earned vacation. So if this article is a bit outdated, we apologize]
It's that time of year again. Students and faculty all across the Lewis campus are celebrating the arrival of spring break. We would say students and faculty all across the country, but it seems that most of the other universities don't have spring break until late March. But, as usual, Lewis has to be different.
Acapulco, Myrtle Beach, Miami and Hawaii are among the most common destinations among vacationing college students who are seeking a getaway towards fun, relaxation, and a lot of booze. Unfortunately, not all college students can afford to travel to paradise. For some of us, the idea of an MTV promo coming to life is marred by financial difficulties.
For all of us who are knee-deep in debt, the Flyer presents the Spring Break Guide to Romeoville. See, Romeoville isn't just about warehouses and factories. It can be a fun place to enjoy spring break. You just have to be creative. Here's a list of places to visit and things to do:
The Illinois and Michigan Canal: Who needs a tropical beach when you have this nice strip of water. Here you can go swimming (be careful, it might be illegal and there's a lot of algae), lie around in mud and soak up the sun, or hook up with the locals (mostly hikers and homeless people).
Beautiful sunrises: Nothing says romance like watching a gorgeous sunrise. It's even better when it's reflected off the steel of an oil refinery.
Off Track Betting: What's better then taking your parents' hard-earned cash and blowing it on a 10 to one shot. But beware, though. Gambling can be an addicting and fund-draining enterprise to take up. Just ask Mark, our assistant sports editor.
