On February 16 Brother Denis Murphy spoke in Sancta Alberta Chapel about his visits to Israel and the ongoing crises there.

Brother Denis has been teaching for decades and has had a very eventful and productive career. Br. Denis holds two Master's degrees in social work and teaching and a P.H.D. in religion.

His first teaching position was here at Lewis University. The first time he worked here was from 1978-1982. During that time he worked closely with Brother Mark McMann, together they helped the ministry program become the integral part of this institution that we know today.

In his time at Lewis he helped many students through the practice of Hypnosis. He treated everyone, from Vietnam Vet to baseball players, ranging in things such as: study skills, relaxation, dream analysis, athletic training, and traditional counseling.

After Lewis University he taught at Bethlehem University in Jerusalem for three years. He then came back to Illinois and taught at De La Salle High School while teaching one class a week at Lewis University.

In 1989 he started Su Casa Catholic Worker House in Chicago. Su Casa house is a community mission for Hispanic families. It was originally founded as a house of hospitality for Central and South American refugees. Su Casa house promotes simple living, non-violence, community and neighborhood cooperation and social justice work.

They are a strict volunteer run mission. They have a Sunday soup kitchen and a community garden Brother Denis headed the organization for 10 years.

He taught Catholic Social teachings and Third world theology at Lewis. After getting "burned out" he moved to Winona, Minnesota where he taught at St. Mary's and ran a Catholic worker house for men.
