Over the last two weeks, the Flyers have gone 2-2 playing several key games. This past weekend, the Flyers hosted the Lewis Invitational, a four-team round-robin tournament. They played two teams, went 0-2, and were eliminated.

The Flyers first took on the 9th- ranked Pacific University Tigers, in their first game of the invitational. Bouncing back and forth between the Flyers, and the Tigers, the game scores were 33-35, 30-24, 28-30, 30-22, and 18-20, with the last game being a match point game. Enrique Escalante excelled the Flyers through the games with 25 kills for the match. Also, Jared Dayton added another 21 kills, with help from Jeff Soler, who added another 19. "The Pacific game was a tough loss, we pushed hard, but we did not finish with what we needed," said Head Coach Dan Friend.

The second match found the Flyers playing against the California Baptist Lancers, who are the top-rated NAIA team in the nation. Lewis was not able to pull out a win throughout the match, but were able to follow the lead set by California, with game scores of 26-30, 22-30, 28-30. "We came out energized for the game." Said Friend, "but the Lancers were more energized then we were."

Soler lead the team with 12 kills and five digs. J.J. Castellano lead the team defensively as the libero with an amazing eight digs.

The weekend of Jan. 29 and 30 the Flyers scored two key wins against the Mercyhurst Lakers and the IPFW Mastodons. The Lakers are currently ranked 2nd to the undefeated Flyers, with a record of 3-1. This four-game match found good fortune in the Flyers as they won 3-1. "Big conference games like Mercy and IPFW are great wins for Lewis," Friend said.

The wins were huge over the Lakers with scores of 30-22 for both games, while the third win was a little closer with a score of 31-29. "We had a much improved game and were very prepared for the game," said Friend. The only loss of the match was the second game where the Lakers found themselves with a lead of five points in a final score of 25-30. This match found many high scorers within as Soler once again lead the team with 21 kills. Dayton put up 12, and Escalante added 10. Defensively, freshman David Kyner helped with four blocks.

On January 29th, the Flyers defeated the IPFW Mastodons in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This five game match was yet another close one for the Flyers, as the game flip-flopped between the two teams with scores of 30-20, 26-30, 30-21, 26-30 and 15-9. Two contributing players of the match were Soler with 18 kills, and senior Matt Mueller, who contributed 11 kills.
